Mission to Save, Protect and Preserve Wild and Domestic Equines

The Wild for Life Foundation is an internationally recognized leader in animal welfare and dedicated equine land is vital to WFLF’s mission to respond adequately to the rapid pace in growth in the numbers of victimized equines WFLF serves.

In effort to help seed WFLF’s Land Acquisition Project in support of its mission, an anonymous supporter purchased an old Thoroughbred farm in Anza, CA and offered the property for purchase by WFLF for the benefit of WFLF’s lifesaving Mission.  

With human encroachment on natural habitats a constant feature of our modern world, Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) is the first and oftentimes the only place where injured, orphaned and homeless wild and domestic equines can find refuge. At WFLF these vulnerable victims receive a high standard of individualized care based on nationally recognized best practices and protocols for equine sanctuary and rehabilitation. WFLF delivers an important public service by providing a place where distressed, wounded, or displaced horses and burros get a second chance at life and are able to thrive in safe healing habitats.

“WFLF has been working to expand its sanctuary programs and facilities in conjunction with its animal assisted learning programs so we can help more animals,”  said Jay Coskie, Vice President and Co-Founder WFLF.  

Founded in July of 2008 under the leadership of Katia Louise, WFLF launched its vital equine rescue program to save the lives of slaughter bound horses discovered in California's illegal underground pipeline during the making of its acclaimed educational documentary film, SAVING AMERICA'S HORSES. The feature length film went on to win multiple international awards through the festival circuit and after qualifying for the Oscars during its bi-coastal theatrical release in late 2012. With each year since, WFLF has expanded its lifesaving equine rescue and sanctuary program to save more lives.

 “This last year after rescuing approximately 200 imperiled Mustangs out of New Mexico that were bound for slaughter, we set up nurseries for 17+ pregnant Mustangs who have since given birth to their beautiful babies. We've re-homed approximately 125 Mustangs to privately held pasture land and natural habitats in four states.  And we’ve provided safe harbor for over seventy five rare and historic wild Mustangs through WFLF’s Wild Horse Sanctuary and Recovery Program.”

WFLF was thrilled for the opportunity to relocate its equine rescue facilities and sanctuary headquarters together with over seventy five rescued wild and domestic horses from two former satellite locations to what was to become WFLF's new Sanctuary Center. The charity has been leasing its facilities in effort to keep up with the steady stream of animals coming into our program. "In order to assure permanent safe harbor for America's horses it's imperative to have ownership of equine land in perpetuity," said Ms. Louise. 
WFLF’s Wild Horse Preservation Program has served as a powerful educational platform for the conservation and protection of wildlife through the provision of sanctuary and preserve land for rare, historic and wild equines found in life threatening danger after being captured from America's public rangelands.
