It was the Year of the Horse – A look back at Horses Lives Saved

It was the Year of the Horse – A look back at Horses Lives Saved

Oct 29, 2018
In early 2014, the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) received requests from a New Mexico nonprofit for money, services and goods to save the lives of approximately 150 of its horses from slaughter. WFLF launched a specific grassroots Rescue and Recovery Mission to help aid and save as many of the horses as possible. WFLF relied on its impeccable reputation and hard-earned resources to raise the attention and support needed to save these horses.  WFLF's robust advocacy and rescue efforts on behalf of its mission to save the horses caught international media attention and was followed and supported by the nation's top equine coalitions, several national animal welfare organizations and many equine rescue groups.

The New Mexico nonprofit and its representatives repeatedly endorsed and thanked WFLF and its
Horses Lives' Saved
staff for their efforts in saving the horses’ lives. WFLF contributed large sums of money and valuable lifesaving services to the New Mexico nonprofit to aid and care for the at-risk horses that were being temporarily housed by the New Mexico nonprofit at dry lot cattle pens. WFLF expended over $18,000.00 in 2014 to evacuate and transport approximately 100 horses to new homes selected by the nonprofit. At the nonprofit’s request, and at WFLF’s expense, WFLF agreed to accept possession of approximately 48 of the least adoptable horses, including 3 pregnant mares, at two WFLF facilities in California. It cost WFLF over $55,000.00 to save the horses in 2014.  WFLF's costs to feed, house and care for these horses continued thereafter and have exceeded $150,000.00 since 2014.

In 2015, WFLF received an anonymous whistleblower report which eventually led to the termination of certain individuals and the parting of ways of the two organizations. Just before departing, a certain individual filed claims against two WFLF representatives.  The court dismissed both cases in their entirety less than one month after they were filed.

WFLF has moved on and continues to dedicate its hard-earned resources toward advancing our valuable and life-saving animal protection missions.  As demonstrated by numerous testimonials, reviews and awards, WFLF operates its services and programs with the highest level of integrity, compassion and honor. We have successfully saved hundreds of wild and domestic horses and burros from abuse, neglect, slaughter and other forms of cruelty. The animals served by WFLF are provided with quality tender loving care, and peaceful safe housing.

We appreciate the kind and generous contributions that our organization continues to receive in support of its work. Our focus remains steadfast on our principle objectives of saving, protecting and preserving America’s horses through rescue, sanctuary and education.

HOPE Tees for Horses - Raise awareness and help Save lives

Only 5 days left to support Wild For Life Foundation's HOPE Tees for Horses!  We are selling t-shirts to help raise awareness for horses in need and much needed funds to support our equine rescue and recovery mission.  Please share this link and buy some shirts to show your support for the horses we all love and work so hard to save and protect every day!  Thank you in advance from the WFLF Team!

Our premier t-shirt design features Guapa a rescued pregnant mare and her recently born filly Preciosa. Their lives were recently saved through WFLF’s Mustang Rescue Mission, together with approximately 140 other imperiled Mustangs after losing their range-land home and narrowly escaping slaughter. Guapa gave birth to Preciosa just weeks after arriving to WFLF’s ranch in California. They are featured front and back on this Ultra Cotton T-shirt in sizes youth – adult, YXS – XXXXL.

Our goal is to sell 500 t-shirts and we need your help 'sharing' to reach more animal loving people. Funds raised will go to work instantly to provide the best available food and care for the rescue horses served under the Wild For Life Foundation.

Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) provides lifesaving equine rescue and sanctuary regardless of age, breed or disability. We provide nutritional hay and feed, urgent care, rehabilitation, education and sanctuary and adoption for displaced, starved, homeless and slaughter bound horses in need.  At WFLF each life saved is just the beginning for in-coming rescue horses. Your continued support makes it possible for us to assure their lives of peace and health, free from abuse and cruelty.  We are an all volunteer nonprofit 501(C)3 organization and we depend 100% upon the generosity of others to accomplish our mission. Without your continued support we would be unable to carry out our crucial lifesaving mission.

New Hope for an Unlikely Pair of Deeply Bonded Majestic Icons

RESCUE UPDATE, Jan 29,2014: O’Dakota (aka Koda), a 7 year old Mustang and his devoted 4 year old friend Chaska’, an off-track Thoroughbred were rescued together by Wild for Life Foundation in December, thanks to donations from compassionate people like you. Koda and Chaska were victims of severe starvation and neglect, and they were about to lose their lives.
Koda and Chaska have been getting lots of tender loving care and eating up a storm since their rescue. You can see their transformation – both are putting on weight and regaining their trust in people after losing all hope.

You can help assure their continued recovery and forever safe harbor by sharing this story. Donations for Koda or Chaska’s will help pay for their feed, vet and farrier expenses. –

Lifetime Equine Refuge is the primary equine rescue and recovery program under Wild for Life Foundation (WFLF), an all volunteer 501 c3 nonprofit charity dedicated to saving, protecting and preserving wild and domestic equines through rescue, sanctuary and education.
